    This family-friendly ½ mile tour will explore the community that shaped the town over a two-hundred-year period.

    Assisted listening devices will be available upon request. Tour spaces are limited; please sign-up at the Robinson-Rose Visitor Services Center to reserve your space the day of your visit. Tours begin promptly at 11 a.m.

    Founded in 1903, Scripps is one of the oldest and most prestigious marine and earth sciences research institutions in the world. The Scripps mission is to seek, teach, and communicate scientific understanding of the oceans, atmosphere, Earth, and other planets for the benefit of society and the environment. Come learn more about this jewel of the University of California system; we invite you to join our 1-hour public tour offered the second Saturday of every month. Tours are free but registration is required. A map and tour details will be sent with confirmation of your registration.

    Parking: Parking in Scripps lots is by permit only. You can purchase a permit at the pay-station in Lot P003. There is also free parking available on the street.

The "Must See Museum" in Balboa Park

 

10968652464?profile=RESIZE_710x The Air & Space Museum was established in 1961 and is housed in the historic Ford Building in Balboa Park. Outside in front of the museum are actual aircraft - a Convair Seadart, Lockheed A-12, and SR 70 Blackbird. 

The museum covers over 100,000 square feet so you want to be sure to get a copy of the Museum Visitor Guide.  In 1 hour you just get an introductionof how extensive the museum is. It's recommended that you allow at least 2-3 hours to properly explore the museum plus additional time if you want to try out some of the interactive displays such as simulated flight.

The museum has sections including Milestones of Flight, Space, World War I, World War II, and Jet Age & Beyond. With over 90 full scale historic aircraft and replicas including a replica of the Spirit of St. Louis built in San Diego. San Diego has some of the richest aviation…

Kate Sessions & Balboa Park

10962752077?profile=RESIZE_584x Kate Sessions (1857-1940) was an American botanist and horticulturist who made significant contributions to San Diego's Balboa Park. Her work in the park helped to transform it from an arid desert landscape into a lush, green oasis and laid the foundation for the park's reputation as one of the world's premier botanical gardens.

Sessions was born in San Francisco and raised in the Bay Area. She developed an early love of nature and a desire to become a horticulturist, but faced significant obstacles in pursuing her passion due to her gender. In those days, horticulture was considered a male-dominated field, and women were often denied the education and opportunities necessary to succeed in the profession.
