    Join an MTRP Trail Guide on a guided nature walk and learn about the plants, animals, geology, history, and ecology of the park on one of these scenic trails:

    -The Oak Grove Loop showcasing majestic coast live oaks and rare Engelmann’s oaks.

    -The Visitor Center Loop highlighting coastal sage scrub, chaparral, and riparian woodland habitats.

    -The Riverside Grinding Rocks featuring one of the archaeological sites in the park.

    These interpretive nature walks are offered to enhance your appreciation of the unique beauty of San Diego’s natural environment. The park is constantly changing, so see and learn new things on walks throughout the year.

    Walks start from the Visitor Center every Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.

    Walks are free and open to the public, with no reservations required. The trails used are easy, but have uneven surfaces and some involve steps, so be sure to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring along water. A hat and sunscreen

    This 1-Hour walking tour of Hillcrest covers San Diego’s LGBTQ history with stories of some of its earliest gay bars, the hate crimes plaque, Harvey Milk Street, the Center, the Rainbow Flag and much more. The tour covers the people, places and events that made San Diego’s “gayborhood” the vibrant community it is today.

    Learn about how and why the migration of gay bars from downtown began, how San Diego and Hillcrest attracted a large LGBTQ population, and how even the gay bars were once “closeted.”

    The Villa Montezuma is the Historic Jesse Shepard/”Francis Grierson” House.  It was built in 1887 as the home of world famous pianist, author, and Spiritualist Jesse Shepard. Jesse began a writing career in San Diego and took the pen name “Francis Grierson,” a name that he used in life as well as for his writing. The Villa is located in the Sherman Heights Historic District of downtown San Diego, CA, at the corner of 20th & K Streets.  The Sherman Heights Historic District is the largest historic district within San Diego; it has almost 400 contributing historic structures.

    You can see the entire magnificent, mysterious Villa Montezuma Museum! Tours are on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Tour times are at 1:00, 2:15, and 3:30 p.m. During the “HeART and Soul of Ukraine” art show sponsored admission is only $5 per person (children 12 and under are free). Regular admission costs per person when we don’t have a sponsored event:

    This 90 minute walking tour covers La Jolla's downtown and coastal areas finishing at the world famous La Jolla Children's Pool. There's plenty of wildlife to see every day including sea lions, seals, brown pelicans and cormorants. You'll also learn how La Jolla started out as an art colony in the late 1800s and see beach cottages from that era that are still standing.

    This tour is suitable for all ages.
